Synthetic Gene DataBase

SGDB Timeline

History of updates

  • 06/19/2006: Two new columns ("AAchanges" and "RecodingEffect") have been added to "SyntheticGene" table. Put the "FAQ" as a link under the banner. The new version of the SGDB is assigned as V1.1. The version before this one is referred to as V1.0.
  • 06/18/2006: The table listing synthetic genes becomes sortable according to column headings.
  • 04/25/2006: A tool (aligner.php) has been created to visually compare the codon usage in a synthetic gene vs its natural counterpart in the SGDB.
  • 03/15/2006: After a long time use of Recoded Gene Database, we have now changed the name back to "Synthetic Gene Database".
  • 02/03/2006: The field "URL" in the Literature table was changed to "Discussion", which directs to a topic (thread) in the Evolvingcode Forum to discuss the study.
  • 02/01/2006: The number of synthetic genes in SGDB exceeded 200.
  • 01/15/2006: The XML schema was created.
  • 01/11/2006: The number of synthetic genes in SGDB exceeded 100.
  • 01/07/2006: Login was required for browsing information on synthetic genes and downloading XML files.
  • 01/05/2006: Two fields ("ContactAuthor" and "ContactEmail") were added into the Literature table for corresponding author.
  • 01/03/2006: A note field was added into the WTGene and RecodedGene tables called "WTNote" and "RGNote", respectively. The "ResultsEvaluation" field was removed from the RecodedGene table.
  • 01/02/2006: A new gene length field ("RGLength") was added into the RecodedGene table because sometimes the coding sequences of synthetic and natural genes are not of the same length.
  • 12/29/2005: A statistics on the number of publications reporting synthetic genes each year was added on doc.php.
  • 12/28/2005: A documentation page was created to list the history, contribution, FAQ, etc.
  • 12/27/2005: The number of references in SGDB exceeded 200. :-)
  • 12/26/2005: Created an XML schema for the SGDB that allowed users to download the XML format data.
  • 12/22/2005: update.php was finished.
  • 12/16/2005: submit.php was finished.
  • 12/14/2005: The search.php was converted into a search box and integrated into every SGDB page.
  • 12/13/2005: The ER model was revised so that the submitter of a reference can be different from the submiter of a natural gene .
  • 12/09/2005: users.php, pub.php and wt.php were created to list all submitters, all references and all natural genes, respectively.
  • 11/15/2005: Presented the SGDB for the first time at UMBC A Look Ahead Symposium.
  • 11/04/2005: Started the design of submit.php.
  • 11/02/2005: activation.php and profile.php were created.
  • 11/01/2005: New fields were added into the submitter table of the SGDB for account activation.
  • 10/27/2005: register.php and account.php were created to manage submitter accounts.
  • 10/25/2005: After struggling with php session for a while, the user login system was successfully established.
  • 09/26/2005: show_records.php was created to list detailed information on each synthetic gene and its wild-type counterpart. login.php was created for submitters.
  • 09/23/2005: search.php and query_results.php was finished.
  • 09/22/2005: The style sheet of SGDB web interface was created. The index.php and browse.php were created.
  • 09/15/2005: The ACCESS version of SGDB was transformed into MySQL version with Blazej Bulka's perl scripts.
  • 09/06/2005: A Microsoft ACCESS version of SGDB was created.
  • 08/30/2005: The ER model of the SGDB was created.
  • 08/15/2004: The concept of this database was proposed and initially named as "Synthetic Gene Database".
